Texas authorities have released to the media the identities of the two men who were killed during a workplace accident. The men worked for a local construction company and were repairing a roof at a storage site when the roof collapsed and crushed them.
The accident is still being investigated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. After the accident, authorities delayed releasing the names of the victims until after their immediate family members had been notified. One victim was a 57-year-old man from Mathis, and the other was a 19-year-old man from Temple, Ga.
Although the accident report has yet to be released, the victims’ families could have grounds to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the construction company that was employing the two men. Such claims could arise negligence committed by the company, which may have led to faulty safety equipment, faulty building materials, poor construction or faulty building rules. In some cases, negligence could also mean insufficient safety training.
