A Houston car accident lead to fatal injuries for an unidentified 61-year-old driver. The car collision was reported to have occurred between two vehicles on U.S. 59 around 3 p.m. on March 31. The Southwest Freeway by Chimney Rock was closed for more than eight hours following the serious crash. The fatal accident remains under investigation by Texas authorities, according to a report issued in April.
The crash took place in Southwest Houston and involved a Jeep Cherokee and a 18-wheeler truck. Authorities claim that the Jeep struck the U.S Postal Service truck, causing both vehicles to crash into a concrete wall. Both vehicles caught fire and part of the truck detached from the vehicle and struck a pole in the collision. The Jeep was reported to be trapped between the wall and the truck before being igniting from the damage.
The Jeep driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The U.S Postal Service employee was transported to a Houston hospital. The highway was shut down until approximately 11:40 p.m. while officials cleared debris from the accident. Drivers were re-routed in order to avoid further damage from the collision, and traffic was reported to be tied up while vehicles sought an alternate route. Both drivers’ names were not issued to the public as the crash was still being investigated at the time of the report.
