At 1 a.m. on April 27, police received a 911 call and found a crash scene with an upside down Mitsubishi SUV containing four people. The SUV had flipped over following being rear-ended by a pickup truck traveling at high-speed on Texas 105, causing the SUV’s frame to break and the outer door skin to be popped off. One 54-year-old female passenger from Conroe suffered fatal injuries in the accident. The remaining occupants of the SUV, including her two teenage grandchildren and their 65-year-old grandfather, were treated and released later from the local hospital.
The SUV was struck while it was stopped at Navajo on the eastbound Texas 105, and they were waiting for the traffic light to change, according to the Montgomery County Police Reporter. The Dodge 3500 pickup merged from Blue Heron to 105 at high speed, rear-ended the SUV and crashed into a utility pole. The driver fled the scene.
The pickup truck driver showed up later at a hospital in Conroe for treatment of a broken arm. He was taken into custody and charged with two counts of aggravated assault, one count of failing to stop to render aid, intoxication assault with a vehicle and intoxication manslaughter.
