Recent reports say that a 50-year-old man and a teen were killed in an accident that occurred in Bandera County. Prior to the crash, a witness claimed the truck the 50-year-old was driving was swerving between lanes. He reportedly struck another vehicle traveling on the opposite lanes of Texas 173.
The man was headed south on the highway when he veered into the northbound lanes and hit a car head-on. The vehicle was being driven by a 19-year-old woman. Her passenger, an 18-year-old man, was killed in the collision. The 50-year-old was also declared dead by authorities responding to the scene. The woman was taken to University Hospital where she was said to be in stable condition on May 13.
It was reported that the 18-year-old’s family was driving behind the woman’s vehicle but did not witness the accident.According to officials from the Department of Public Safety, the 50-year-old was taking prescription drugs for a work-related injury. However, it was not mentioned if he took the medication before the crash, and authorities were still waiting on autopsy results. Sources also indicate that the man had two previous DWI charges in 1997. Court records show that one case was dismissed while he pleaded no contest in the other.
Car accident victims could seek compensation for their injuries from the liable driver. In this case, if the results from the autopsy confirm that the 50-year-old was impaired at the time of the wreck, he could be considered negligent. The injured woman and the family of the 18-year-old may file claims for reimbursement with the aid of a personal injury attorney.
