A three-vehicle accident around 12:30 p.m. on Farm-to-Market Road 1844 resulted in the death of an 82-year-old woman on May 20. The driver who authorities believe caused the fatal accident was expected to face criminal charges as a result.
A man who lives across the street from the accident scene said the sound of the collision was the loudest thing that he had ever heard. He said that the accident began when a Meals On Wheels van slowed to turn left into a driveway. The driver of a white pickup truck behind the van did not realize in time that the van was slowing and attempted to avoid a collision by going around it. However, the 31-year-old man driving the truck sideswiped the van and collided head-on with a car. Authorities said that they would charge the driver of the truck with criminally negligent homicide.
Another neighbor said that she rushed to help those involved in the accident soon after it occurred. She said that the woman who was driving the car was still breathing when she got there. She said, however, that the driver’s legs were pinned to the side of the car. The other witness said that many wrecks occur near the FM 1844 and Texas 300 intersection, but this accident was the worst that he has seen.
Fatal car accidents can cause a great deal of distress for the family members of the victims. They can also result in financial damages such as medical and funeral costs that can add to the stress of an already difficult time. However, it may be possible for a family to recover compensation for such damages from the driver at fault, which may help them avoid financial worries as they grieve for their loss.
