Seven people were injured in a Corpus Christi freeway crash involving a cement truck on July 1. The crash occurred shortly after 11 a.m. along S. Padre Island Drive at Everhart Road and affected traffic in both directions. According to police, the cement truck was traveling east when it had a tire blowout, causing the driver to lose control. It struck the center concrete dividers, rolled and landed in the westbound lanes, breaking apart in the process. The debris damaged at least three westbound vehicles. Five individuals were transported to a local hospital by ambulance, two of them with serious injuries. An additional two individuals were treated at the scene.
Authorities suggested that drivers seek an alternate route while crews worked to clear the accident. Crews were needed to repair the several damaged concrete dividers, clear debris from the roadway. The freeway reopened around 3:30 p.m. that day. The cleanup of the scene involved removing concrete that had spilled from the truck onto the roadway.
A truck accident can cause serious damage to smaller vehicles and injuries to their drivers and passengers. When a person suffers injuries in a crash involving a large truck, they might consider filing a personal injury lawsuit against the responsible party. Such a claim would allow the person to seek claim monetary compensation for injuries, damage to property, and pain and suffering related to the accident.
In addition, many large trucks are commercially owned vehicles. An accident involving a commercial vehicle or a driver operating a vehicle while on the job can result in the possibility of a lawsuit being filed against the driver as well as the company that owns the vehicle. A company may be liable if the cause of the accident can be traced back to the company.
