The Galveston Police Department reported that a two-vehicle crash left one person dead and two others injured on July 26. The accident occurred around 1:50 p.m. on Seawall Boulevard, and the decedent was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to authorities, the 72-year-old victim was driving a Toyota Sienna minivan west on the roadway when an eastbound, black Infiniti SUV attempted to make a U-turn and hit the left side of the van. The driver’s wife, who was a passenger in the minivan, suffered serious injuries and was transported to John Sealy Hospital at the University of Texas Medical Branch. The male driver of the SUV was also injured. He was taken to the same hospital and was in stable condition as of July 26 according to police.
A section of Seawall Boulevard was closed for over five hours, and traffic was rerouted to Stewart Road. Police were still looking into what caused the accident on the day it occurred. Specifically, they were investigating whether or not drugs or alcohol contribute to the incident. As of the day of the crash, authorities had not filed any charges.
In addition to the medical bills the deceased driver’s wife will incur, she will also need to pay for her his final expenses. If the accident investigation asserts that the driver of the Infiniti caused the crash, she may want to discuss filing a wrongful death lawsuit against him. Additionally, if criminal charges are filed against him, they could serve as evidence of his negligent driving in a subsequent civil case in which he was the defendant.
