On Feb. 3, a woman who had spent 18 years of her life working in the Whitesboro ISD was killed in a head-on collision. Flags at buildings controlled by the district were flown at half-staff in memory of the woman, who had served as a teacher, assistant principal and principal of Whitesboro Middle School.
The car accident occurred at 7 a.m., slowing traffic along a stretch of U.S. Highway 377, according to a report from a local media outlet. A trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety claimed that the collision happened when a vehicle that was traveling south on the highway attempted to pass a car by moving into lanes of oncoming traffic. That car collided head-on with the principal’s vehicle.
The principal was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The other driver, a 60-year-old man who lives in Sadler, was take to TMC. He was reportedly in critical condition and was transferred to the Medical Center of Plano for an emergency surgery. At the time of reporting, he was receiving treatment in that hospital’s intensive care use.
