A secretary with the Port Neches Police Department reported a black SUV hit the no parking sign in front of the station parking lot. The driver dragged the sign and left the scene. After this, it is believed that the 38-year-old female driver of the SUV crossed over the center line on Merriman, and had a head-on collision with a Toyota Corolla driven by a 52-year-old woman. The 52-year-old woman had her two grandchildren, ages four and five, in the car as well.
The 52-year-old woman and the five-year-old suffered injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening. The four-year-old was airlifted to Houston where it is expected that the child will have surgeries on her face and some dental work done. The driver of the SUV continued driving west on Merriman and ended up traveling into the grass at Port Neches Middle School. The vehicle finally came to a stop when it hit the brick sign for the middle school. The driver of the SUV was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Police are going to interview the driver of the SUV when she is released from the hospital. They are also speaking to anyone who could have witnessed any of the incidents.
