The police in Texas have accused a 25-year-old man of drunken driving after an accident where he is alleged to have run a red light and his three cars on Plano Road in Far Northeast Dallas. He also faces charges of intoxication manslaughter after an individual who had been involved in the accident died from their wounds.
The accident happened at 11:16 p.m. on Nov. 25, when the man is said to have been driving east on Forest Lane. When he arrived at Plano Road, he apparently failed to stop and ran into three cars driving north.
The resulting multi-car collision caused injuries to four of the people who were involved. Two were taken to the hospital, where their condition was described as good. The driver that the police accused of drinking was transported to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas for treatment of unspecified wounds. A 69-year-old woman who had been hurt in the wreck was taken to Medical Center of Plano, but the doctors were unable to save her life. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Officials have yet to release a report publicly identifying the woman, but her bereaved family may begin the proceedings to place a wrongful death lawsuit against the man alleged to have caused the crash at their earliest convenience. Any civil case that they might file against the man would be a separate proceeding from the criminal case against him. All relevant evidence that makes its way into the public record from the criminal trial may find utilization in the civil trial, but an innocent verdict in criminal court would not prevent the family from recovering fair compensation in civil court.
